BEVERAGES 5-Hour Energy drinks have been cited in the deaths of 13 people in the past four years, according to reports received by the Food and Drug Administration. The energy shot, made by closely held Farmington Hills-based Living Essentials, has been associated with 92 adverse-event reports in that time, including 32 hospitalizations, Shelly Burgess, an FDA spokeswoman said Wednesday by telephone. The death reports are open cases being investigated by the FDA, she said. 5-Hour Energy, Monster Beverage energy drinks and competing products are being targeted by lawmakers, including U.S. Sen.
