Kent State football coach Darrell Hazell is a man of many ideas, so it wasn’t a surprise to learn this week that he’s had a preseason field trip planned for a couple months. But it came as a shock Wednesday to Hazell’s players and assistant coaches to learn the unannounced trip was happening right in the middle of preseason camp. With exactly two weeks left before the Golden Flashes host Towson in the season opener Aug. 30, the team boarded three buses and hit the road early Wednesday morning with only a few staff members knowing where the group was headed.
