Paternity allowance can be paid for up to 54 working days or about 9 weeks. After 1 January 2013, paternity allowance is available for a longer period and its timing is more flexible. Fathers can take a leave of 1 to 18 working days and receive paternity allowance while the mother receives maternity or parental allowance.
