Stabenow's advantage over former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland grew from seven points in August to 16 in September, 50 percent to 34 percent. The two-term senator also gained a slight four-point edge among males, a group in which she was in a tie with Hoekstra last month.
