TOKYO (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is urging countries involved in territorial disputes in the Asia-Pacific region to find a way to peacefully resolve those problems before they spark provocations and violence. The defense chief said his conversations with the Japanese and Chinese would echo what U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton told them earlier this month — that they must find a process for settling the disputes. The U.S., he said, does not take a position with regard to the disputed lands. Panetta met Monday in Tokyo with Japanese Defense Minister Satoshi Morimoto and Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba.
