Advertisement Sussex County Republicans made major advances with no setbacks in Tuesday's general election. Sussex comprises 4 state senate districts, including the new post-census sixth district. GOP nominee Ernie Lopez defeated Democrat Andy Staton, 56% to 43%. Libertarian Wendy Jones captured just over 1% of the votes. Republicans won 7 of the county's 8 representative districts, including the new twentieth district, which was won by former state trooper Steve Smyk.
