The UK vinyl market grew for a fifth consecutive year in 2012. Album sales of the vintage format increased by 70% last year, tallying up £.5.7 million in sales compared to 2011's £3.4m. "The reason the growth is notable is that, first of all, a lot of people had written off vinyl for dead and, secondly, it compares very favourably with the declines suffered by CD", Kim Bayley, director general of the ERA, told BBC News. The sales registered in 2012 don't include second-hand sales of vinyls, meaning the marketplace for the format could be considerably higher.
