Tram and train passengers will be hit by inflation-busting fare rises when they return to work today. Metrolink fares will increase by an average of 4.2 per cent as passengers help pay towards the cost of new trams and the 'big bang' expansion of the network. Details of the new fares, revealed today, show some tram passengers will see the price of their season ticket increase by more than 5.8pc, while others will see their fare unchanged.
