VIRGIN AUSTRALIA claims it can cut costs at a faster rate than its rival Qantas, should their fight for lucrative corporate travellers in the domestic market turn ugly. Facing the prospect of both a price war in the domestic market and foreign airlines boosting capacity on routes to Australia, Qantas shares fell almost 5 per cent to 98.5¢ yesterday - just above last month's record low of 97¢ - before recovering to close at $1.005.
