Sherman Hemsley — the iconic '70s TV character George Jefferson — has died, according to a report on TMZ. He was 74 and had been living in El Paso, Texas. No independent confirmation yet. One of TV's biggest stars during "The Jeffersons" 10-year run, he and co-star Isabel Sanford were arguably the biggest success stories to emerge from "All in the Family" — which she starred in for only a couple of dozen episodes and he a handful after which creator, Norman Lear, spun them off into a show about movin' uptown.
