(Frazer Harrison/Getty Images) Actor Sherman Hemsley, who became famous as the curmudgeonly dry cleaner George Jefferson on TV's "All in the Family" and then its spinoff "The Jeffersons," died today at his home in Texas, TMZ reported. He was 74. Hemsley was born in Philadelphia and later moved to New York to pursue acting. In addition to his 10-year run on "The Jeffersons," he also starred as Deacon Ernest Frye on "Amen" for five seasons from 1986 to 1991.
