NEW YORK -- Melky Mesa notched his first Major League hit in the Yankees' 10-2 win over the Red Sox on Monday, connecting for a pinch-hit RBI single off Andrew Bailey in the eighth inning. "It's exciting. I just feel good about it," said the 25-year-old Mesa. "I never give up. I'm just waiting for the opportunity for so long. I'm taking it and now I just take advantage." Mesa signed with the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in July 2003 and spent seven years in the Minors, batting .264 with 23 homers and 67 RBIs in 121 games between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.
